The Hibernian Golf Club was the brainchild of James Dunne Jr. and friends in 1983. Originally incorporated as "The Hibernian Golf Society, the first official season was in 1984, and there were 20 members: James Dunne Jr., James Dunne Sr., Mike Kavanagh, Ed Pedersen, Brendan Lally, Frank Walsh, Fran Daly, Gregg Heaton, Gary Gann, John Martin, Andy Rasmussen, Sean McDonnell, Pat Nutley, Des Fussell, Doug Yamamoto, Roy Stevenson, Tom Rees, Joe Polack, Gord Hartney, Vic Heaton.
In 1984 the dues were $60.00, 8 tournaments were played, there were 14 sponsors and the year was topped off with a fund raising social.
Tournament Prizes were awarded based on handicap groups 1-18, 19-26, +26- for low gross and low net within each group, and a prize was given for closest to the pin.
In 1985, the membership grew to 27- in 1986- 40, 1986-2003- 44, 2004- 48. In 1985 the Hibernian became the first associate group in Canada to become a member of the RCGA + BCGA.
In 1990- member- Jim Maddeaux transferred his shares in the United Golfers of N.Americal (1986) to Wayne Zaiser and James Dunne Jr. reincorporated this company - DBA The Hibernian Golf Club, as a nonprofit, nonreporting club.
The oldest standing members in the club are Joe Stevanak and Wayne Zaiser, both joining the club in 1986.
The club has come a long way since 1983 – We now have a tour style Money List (no real money but bragging rights!), Match Play, Aerostream Cup (Pairs Stableford), Individual Stableford, Kelly Cup (Callaway system), Pink Ball Tournament, 4 Majors, and a 3 day road trip, 2 day Club Championship, 0-49, 50-55, and 55+ Categories, and year Texas Scramble Tournament paid by the club. Each event has a deuce pot and special event.
We now have 19+ Tournament Sponsors a year, 19 game schedule, and a 14 member executive, website, and social media platform,
Foremost, the club is living up to the founding member' central themes for the club:
* To promote the game of golf.
* To encourage the recreational and competitive aspect of the sport.
* Create a camaraderie and a social organization centered on golf and related activities.
